Mary Loughlin McPherson

Mary Loughlin McPherson, 66, of Phoenix, MD, passed away on August 19 from a brief battle with AML. She was surrounded by her loving children at the time of her passing. Born on May 31, 1958 in Havre de Grace, Mary was the beloved mother of Ryan, Kevin (Christina), Cameron and Erin and cherished Nana of Sidney and Harrison. She was a loving mother, devoted nana, and unforgettable friend. Mary is survived by her four children, two grandchildren, older sister Lynn (Joe) Skerpon and her ‘Irish twin' brother Terry (Barb) Loughlin. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Loretta Loughlin and her beloved dog, Nessa. Throughout her life, Mary was known for her deep passion for many things. From turtles to board games, inventing her ‘things of beauty’ to volunteering and gardening. Her flowers were a vibrant tapestry of colors and life, reflecting her love for nature and her nurturing touch. She enjoyed tending to her plants and creating beautiful spaces where family and friends could gather. Mary also had a special fondness for hummingbirds, often finding joy in watching these delicate creatures visit her garden, which she lovingly cultivated to attract them. As a Nana, she delighted in reading books to Sidney and Harrison, having them over for hot tub swimming and Nana cuddles. They requested her famous "Nana Soup" at every visit and time spent with her brought immeasurable joy to her grandsons and all who knew her. Her legacy will live on in the memories made at her home, celebrating family birthdays, events, and sharing special time together. A Celebration of Life will be held at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens chapel on October 14 at 11AM. Friends and family are invited to join her children in celebrating her life and sharing their memories. A private interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Mary’s honor be made to Ladew Gardens (where Mary shared her time and talents for years) or MPN Research Foundation (https://mpnresearchfoundation.org/donate-to-mpn-research/), which funds research to finding new treatments and eventually a cure for PV, and MF, blood cancers that Mary had battled for years. Mary will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she loved and who loved her, especially her beloved children, who will forever cherish the special moments they shared with their Mom.
