Judith Sams

Judith Belsinger Sams, known to all as Judy, passed away on May 28, 2024 after an prolonged battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Judy was the beloved wife of Frank D. Sams, mother of Jennifer (James Norris) Belsinger, sister to Ronald Belsinger (deceased) and David Belsinger, grandmother (Mimi) to Lauren Curry. Born in Baltimore on December 5, 1947, Judy was raised in Towson, Maryland, and is a graduate of Towson High School. She was preceded in death by her parents Harry “Flair” Belsinger and Gertrude Link Belsinger. She was the proud owner of and cherished the companionship with Dash and Abby, her vivacious and somewhat rowdy Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. Judy and her family often spent weekends and summers at their home on Middle River, Maryland , as she was a lover of the Chesapeake Bay. She could often be found sailing “Incredible”, crabbing and fishing the waters of the bay and its surroundings. A day at the river was a day of paradise. An alumna of Villa Julie College (now Stevenson University), Judy received an AA Degree after high school. Judy had a passion for health care and committed herself to the care of others for much of her professional career. She later returned to Villa Julie, where she earned a BS in Nursing in 2000. She worked as a nurse in several capacities and particularly enjoyed the engagement with the residents and interns during her tenure for the Good Samaritan Primary Care Center. Judy’s interests spanned far beyond her professional life. Travel played a significant role in her later years. She visited destinations short and far; several island vacations, Europe, Africa and traveled extensively throughout the United States. She particularly enjoyed the Christmas Markets in Germany and France. She loved to immerse herself in the culture of the places she visited. Judy was an avid gardener. There was never a bad day to garden. She loved designing the landscaping at her home and considered her gardens to be an everlasting work in progress. From early March when her tulips sprouted to late fall when her annuals blanketed her property she could regularly be seen committed to the care of her flowers. Most importantly, Judy cherished spending time with family, hosting family reunions and other special occasions. She was the notorious baker of the family, known for her pies, pastries and coffee cake. Those who knew Judy would describe her as beautiful, elegant, strong and compassionate. The family will honor her and her legacy at the Mitchell-Wiedefeld Funeral Home, 6500 York Road, Baltimore, Maryland 20212 on June 6th from 5 pm to 8pm. Funeral Service to follow at 11 am on June 7th at the Towson Presbyterian Church, 400 West Chesapeake Avenue, Towson, Maryland 21204. Interment to follow at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens.
