David Martin Scheve

With heavy hearts and much love, we share the passing of David M. Scheve, 70, of Baltimore, Maryland. He was surrounded by family in his final days and passed away peacefully on the ninth of April 2026. Born on February 9, 1956, David was the beloved son of Martin Robert Scheve and Dolores Margaret Scheve (nee Schulte) and eldest brother to Timothy C. Scheve and Janet M. Fluck (nee Scheve). He attended Calvert Hall College High School and went on to achieve his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Villanova University and his MBA in Finance from Loyola University. He grew up across the street from Tamara R. Scheve (nee Roebber), the woman who would become his wife and lifelong partner of forty-two years. They bought and renovated a house together in Stoneleigh, raising their two children just a few blocks away from where they first met. Dave went on to an illustrious career, beginning as an engineer and project manager at AAI Corporation, where he obtained two patents. He dedicated the next twenty-four years of his career in service to NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, ultimately rising to the rank of Deputy Director of Space Flight Operations Directorate. He led countless high-caliber teams and projects—including multiple Hubble Space Telescope servicing missions—with his characteristic quiet strength and profound work ethic. He finished his career as Senior Vice President of Engineering, Science and Operations Business at private technology innovator SGT. He was deeply respected by those who worked alongside him, and he received presidential honors from Barack Obama for his achievements in leadership and public service. More than any title or accomplishment, Dave will be remembered for his steady strength, deep devotion to his family, and his infectious smile. He had a passion for investing, loved snorkeling on annual Caribbean vacations, and could often be found with a hammer in hand as he tackled yet another home improvement project. Those who loved him will proudly carry forth his legacy of integrity and unwavering dedication in all pursuits. His presence will be felt whenever his family looks at the moon and night sky. David is lovingly survived by his wife Tamara R. Scheve, his children Matthew D. Scheve and Lindsay M. Holdren, his brother Timothy C. Scheve, his daughter-in-law Rebecca L. Carle and son-in-law Scott M. Holdren, countless nieces and nephews, and his newborn grandson Hudson David Scheve, who has been named in his honor. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, and grandparents, now reunited in peace. A memorial Mass will be held on May 2nd at 11:00 am at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Towson, MD, where family and friends are invited to gather, remember, and celebrate a life that meant so much to so many. Private inurnment ceremony to be held at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens.
